Studieren im Mittleren Osten (SiMO)

The program “Studium im Mittleren Osten” (SiMO), carried out from the evangelical church in Germany, offers a ecumenical year in the Near East School of Theology (Nest) in Beirut, Lebanon. Students get the chance to improve their knowledge concerning the churches in the Middle East, interreligious dialogue and ecumenical working skills. To live in a predominantly Muslim country like Lebanon is furthermore a great experience and a good possibility to get in touch with an different cultural and religious environment.

Although the program has existed for many years in Germany, it is pretty new in Austria. 2009 was the first year when three students from Austria attended. At first, SiMO was created for theologists but since 2009 other fields of study are welcome too. However, the courses in the Near East School of Theology are dealing primarily with Christian Theology and Christian-Muslim relations.
